June 16th, 2001 - the beginning of a very special chapter in the life of THEATRICUS. In true environmental fashion, the cast took over the grounds of the Dole Playground Park in Honolulu and transformed it into the sacred sanctuary Domnonkai Cong - "Beneath a Dragon's Wing." Great figures of power and politics clashed at the very border of war in this original tale of fantastic adventure. This production was presented as the first chapter in an ongoing saga - designed to allow audiences to experience these legendary lives and events as they unfold.
Living theatre. Living fantasy. Living adventure!

Much can be said about Kaimuki Town in Honolulu. The ecclectic. The epicurian. The cultural. The supernatural. The quirky. Methinks a bit of influence from each realm touched our production of award-winning author James Morrow's THE ZOMBIES OF MONTROSE at Prosperity Corner. We opened October 19th, 2001 - with a packed house at each show! It was a little over a month after the events of 9/11...and we actually considered cancelling the show. Rehearsals were strange. But we all agreed that the show had to go on. We needed the laugh and our neighbors did too. We threw at 'em what we had: movie make-up master Bryan Furer's undead, Brett's outer space sense of the absurd and a wonderful cast of sheer lunatics. Yep, Kaimuki Town. She'll never be the same.

Based on the wonderful audience response from our "Legend of Romney Black" storyline, we decided to take the characters on a dark journey into the world of the supernatural. Based on our 1993 production of the same name, we opened the flood gates and turned Manoa's Halloween 2002 into a truly frightful experience. We built an ancient temple into the park pavilion in a half-indoor seating arrangement. There's nothing scarier than a vampire emerging from the fog...and the rain and wind and biting chill only added to the ambiance.

            <title>The Little Necromancer</title>
            <link>http://www.theatricus.com/component/content/article/17-theatricus-our-history/7-the-little-necromancer</link>

On October 24th, 2003 we unleashed the world premier of "The Little Necromancer" by Brett Botbyl. The show's poster described the show as, "An innovative, interactive, semi-improvisational dark comedy, fantasy, horror, action theatre experience with vampires, trolls, sorcerers, elves, a lounge-singing former dog..."
The audiences were bent and twisted around the story, involving them in the action of this off-kilter adventure. Think Buffy meets Beetlejuice with a decidedly local flair. Somewhere out there a former audience member still tells the story of what it was like to be a troll and eat yummy poop out of an old hub cap. "Just like chocolate mousse...."
